Search for Exams

UT Austin awards course credit for a variety of exam types. All exams for which the university awards course credit or placement are listed below.

To search for a type of exam, select the down arrow on the Type drop-down menu, then click Search. Some exams or scores may award credit for multiple courses or allow students to choose from a list of course options. Which courses a student should petition for (or "claim") credit should first be discussed with an academic advisor to ensure relevance to the student's degree. Please contact Student Testing Services with any questions about the scores or courses awarded.

Advanced Placement (AP): UT Austin awards credit for at least one course for all AP exams with a score of 3 or higher with the exceptions of AP Comparative Government, AP Research, and AP Seminar. Credit is not awarded for those exams as there is no equivalent undergraduate coursework that aligns with the exam content.

CLEP: UT Austin awards credit for the eight (8) CLEP exams listed. We do not award credit for any CLEP exam not listed on the table. Please note that some CLEP exams may require supplemental materials. Click the specific exam page for more details.

International Baccalaureate (IB): 

• IB students who are entering the university as freshmen and earn the full IB Diploma should select IB Diploma.
• Students who enter the university as transfer students, or who do not earn the full IB Diploma, should select IB Certificate/Course Awarded.
