The UT Test for Credit in Persian allows students with prior knowledge of Persian to attempt to earn credit for PRS 601C and 611C. This exam can also serve as a placement exam for students who wish to enroll in one of the Persian courses offered by the Department of Middle Eastern Studies.
Students for Whom the Credit by Exam Test is Recommended or Appropriate
Students with prior knowledge of Persian who wish to determine their level of placement to enroll in a Persian course at UT, or students who wish to earn credit by exam for PRS 601C and 611C, may take this test. The test consists of two portions:
- The written test prepared by UT Austin faculty, taken in the testing center on the scheduled date. This portion assesses skills in reading comprehension, writing formally, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Students who earn a score of 74 or higher on the writing portion will be contacted to complete the second portion, an oral interview with the Persian language coordinator, either in person or over Zoom. This portion of the test will assess speaking, listening, and reading skills.
The time allowed for the written portion of the test is two hours.
Where and When to Take the Test
The UT Austin Test for Credit in Persian is offered on campus for eligible UT Austin students once per year, during scheduled testing period in mid-spring semester, typically in March. Please review the ID Requirements, as students arriving without proper ID may not test. Visit the Test Registration System to view and register for upcoming test dates.
Registration Fee:
The total of the fees for this test is $85. When you register for a test, you will immediately be billed for the non-refundable test registration fee of $25. After you take the test, you will be billed for the test fee of $60. Payments are due within 14 days of the billing date. All fees are subject to change.

Test Results and Retakes:
Results are available within around three days of the written exam date.
