UT Test for Credit in GOV 106C (Politics and Government in Contemporary Texas)

The UT Austin Test for Credit in GOV 106C (Politics and Government in Contemporary Texas) awards credit for GOV 106C, which can assist in completing the core government requirement for students who have six hours of government credit that do not align with the standard accepted government course sequences. It is typically taken by students missing a 1-hour Texas Government requirement alongside other government credits. If you are not sure if credit for this course would benefit you, check with your academic advisor. This is not the supplemental test for AP US Government and Politics or the CLEP American Government test.

The 50 multiple-choice questions in this test cover the politics and government of the state of Texas. The subject matter of these items is devoted exclusively to Texas politics and government and includes questions on the following:

• State government organization and powers
• Political parties and elections
• Social-economic environment
• Constitution and local government
• Policies, including state finance

Where and When to Take the Test

The University of Texas Test for Credit in GOV 106C is given monthly only on campus in the George I. Sanchez Building (SZB). Visit the Test Registration System to view and register for upcoming test dates.

Students for Whom the Test is Recommended or Appropriate

Students attempting to complete the core federal and Texas government requirement but are specifically missing the Texas component from their course sequence can complete their requirement via GOV 106C. For example, a student who has credit for GOV 305C and GOV 312L, which does not satisfy the core sequence due to missing Texas Government material, could complete the requirement by earning credit for GOV 106C. Registration Fee: 

The total of the fees for the test is $85. When you register for a test, you will immediately be billed for the non-refundable test registration fee of $25. After you take the test, you will be billed for the test fee of $60. Payments are due within 14 days of the billing date. All fees are subject to change.
